Geoffrey Preston MBE is widely regarded as one of Britain’s leading architectural sculptors, renowned for bringing fresh life to the centuries-old art of stucco. After training in sculpture at Hornsey College of Art, he honed his skills as a stonemason and carver before co-founding two of the country’s foremost conservation companies. Among many significant projects, he played a central role in the painstaking restoration of Uppark House in West Sussex, where 18th-century hand-modelled plasterwork was returned to its former glory.
In 2000 Preston established his own workshop in Devon, where he leads a small team of sculptors dedicated to creating new plasterwork for architects, designers and private clients. His work ranges from single, striking signature pieces to entire interiors, always distinguished by bold, flowing forms, a sense of movement, and a masterful use of light and shade.
Notable recent commissions include a flying unicorn for Annabel’s in Mayfair, and The Sea Garden at The Goring hotel. In 2021, he was awarded an MBE for services to plasterwork.
